vLoc3-Pro - Metal Pipe and Cable Locator

Overview

The vLoc3-Pro utility locator introduces new innovative tools for locating buried utilities assuring damage prevention while gathering information for analysis.

With two sets of screened 3D antennas signal distortion is easily detected and displayed on the bright full color display. Along with classic locate screens the vLoc3 series locators offer new locate perspective screens of Vector Locate for fully automatic non-walk over locating, Transverse Graph showing both peak and null simultaneously providing immediate measurement of signal distortion, Plan View showing the relative orientation of the cable at any angle, and a new graphical Sonde screen with guidance arrows leading to the sonde location even when it is vertical.

The highly user configurable vLoc3 series contains eight passive locate modes, fault-find mode, SD (showing direction of outgoing current), and a range of configurable frequencies from 16Hz to 200 kHz. Audio and mechanical vibration alerts can also be configured by the user providing warnings for shallow depth, overload, overhead cables, and excessive swinging. Plug-in-play options for the receiver include optional Bluetooth module useable with external GPS devices and EMS foot to locate buried markers.

Receiver Carry Bag The vLoc3 series Receiver Carry Bag has room to comfortably carry the vLoc3-Pro, vLoc3-5000 or vLoc3-Cam receiver along with the user manual and battery charger. The bag has a double ended heavy duty zipper for easy fast access to the receiver.
GPS Receiver The Garmin GLO™ brings you the best of both worlds by combining GPS/GLONASS receivers with Bluetooth® technology so you can enjoy precise position information on your iPad, iPhone or Android device. The Garmin GLO™ can receive position information from both the GPS and GLONASS satellite constellations, allowing it to connect to up to 24 more satellites than devices that rely on GPS alone. This allows GLO™ to lock on to satellites approximately 20 percent faster and remain connected even at high speed. What’s more, GLO™ updates its position information at 10 times per second — that’s up to 10 times more often than the GPS receivers in many mobile devices. Using Bluetooth technology, GLO™ wirelessly pairs to your mobile device. Just set GLO™ within range of your mobile device, and in moments you’ll be receiving GLO™’s position data. Remote Identification Antenna The Remote Antenna can be used to help identify a particular cable on a cable tray, where cables are bunched together, or in close proximity making it impossible to use a conventional locator. The flat surface of the remote antenna makes it useful for locating utilities behind walls. The remote antenna works in the frequency range of 512Hz to 200kHz.
Vehicle Charging Lead The 12V vehicle charging lead will charge a locator’s Li-Ion rechargeable battery pack from an automotive cigarette lighter socket. This 12ft/4m lead makes it easy to stay charged up while on the go.
vLoc3 Accessory A-Frame The vLoc3 Series Accessory A-Frame accessory is used to detect ground faults on pipes and cables. In the case of pipes, the faults consist of coating defects. In the case of cables, faults are usually caused by insulation damage allowing the metallic sheath (or internal conductor) to become in contact with the ground. It is intended to be used with the vLoc3-Pro range of locators and will require a fault find signal applied to the faulty conductor from a Vivax-Metrotech compatible transmitter with fault finding mode. vLoc3-MLA (Marker Locator Adapter) The vLoc3-MLA (Marker Locator Adapter) is designed for easy, fast and accurate location of buried EMS markers. Once located the MLA will give depth of cover to the buried marker with the touch of a button. The MLA attaches to the bottom of vLoc3-Pro, vLoc3-9800 and vLoc3-5000 receivers. When attached and pluged in to the receivers two marker related operating modes are enabled. In the dedicated marker mode, the receiver screens show a peak bar graph with the signal strength from the marker, the marker type and depth to the marker. In the dual marker mode all the above are shown in addition to the standard utility locate screen including left/right arrows and compass. The plug-and-play MLA will detect any one of nine marker types, in good conditions, buried to a depth of 6’/2m and large flat markers to 9’/3m. VM-510FFL+ Fault Locator Finding the location of an underground cable fault just became easier with the VM-510FFL+ Standalone A-frame locator. Now locating a suspect cable and finding the fault can be done with the VM-510FFL+ and a compatible transmitter. There is no longer a need for a separate utility locator with cables connecting to it. After connecting a compatible transmitter to the line and placing it in a Fault-Find mode, use the simple to operate four button controls of the VM-510FFL+ to locate and stay on the cable path while pinpointing the sheath or ground fault. The robust design includes a high contrast LCD with automatic backlight and weatherproof speaker for both visual and audio indicators. The lightweight carbon fiber material is suited for continuous usage on long cable runs to locate the line and pinpoint the faults. SD Upgrade The 5-Watt and 10-Watt transmitters from Vivax-Metrotech have a special “SD” (Signal Direction) frequency in them as a standard frequency. This feature is used to verify if the line being located is the target to which the transmitter has been connected. When a transmitter is connected to a target line, the signal travels along it and finds the easiest way to travel back, usually via the ground and ground stake. However, very often the signal will travel back along adjacent cables or pipes as these can offer an easier route. As a result, there can be multiple signals radiating from cables and pipes in the area making it difficult to identify the target line. These return signals are typically traveling in the opposite direction than the applied signal. The Signal Direction feature identifies which direction the signal is flowing and hence the target line. When using a receiver with the SD feature the LCD on the receiver will show a directional arrow. This arrow will point away from the location of the transmitter to show that you are on the correct cable. If the arrow on the receiver LCD is point towards the transmitter, this means that you are on a line that has bleed off returning back to the ground. Sondes Sondes are small self-contained battery powered transmitters. Sondes are propelled through non-metallic pipes and ducts and can be located on the surface by a sonde locator or buried utility locator with a sonde mode. Sondes are also built into other products such as a sewer push camera, robotic crawler camera, or attached to a jetter hose. Sondes come in a variety of sizes which ties into how deep they can be located. Different frequencies are available which allow sondes to be located in metallic or non-metallic pipes and ducts. Transmitter Link The 10-Watt Loc3-10Tx transmitter can be remotely operated from the Receiver. This is an optional feature and requires the transmitter radio link option to be installed in both the receiver and transmitter. This feature is only available on the Loc3-10Tx transmitter and is a factory fit option so must be requested at the time of ordering. The range of the radio link depends on having a clear “Line of sight” between Rx and Tx but is typically around 300m. When the transmitter and receiver are linked, changing the receivers frequency will automatically change to the transmitters frequency. Bluetooth Modules As an optional extra the vLoc3-Pro and vLocML3 receivers can be fitted with a Bluetooth communications accessory. This allows communication with external devices such as GPS and or Dataloggers. The Bluetooth option can be retrofitted and can be ordered at a later date if preferred.

Application

MyLocator3 App

Manage a single or fleet of vLoc3 series utility locators with the free MyLocator3 app. Configure locators by turning on or off features, selecting which frequencies the user has access to and creating custom startup screens.

VMMAP App

When used with the vLoc series receivers, the VMMap Utility Mapping app records data from the field which is instantly available online or can be shared by using the email function in the app to send .kml or .csv files.
