vScan Avoidance Tool - Metal Pipe and Cable locator

Overview

The vScan utility avoidance tool has been designed to make buried utility detection a simple and cost-effective process. You don’t need to be an electronics expert to get the most out of the vScan‘s features. Main features and operational controls are in keeping with industry standards so minimal training is required.

Together with the dual frequency transmitter, data logging, optional metal manhole cover detector, GPS, and Bluetooth, the vScan is available in various models to suit all applications.

The vScan locator kits are shipped with a spacious canvas carry bag which fits the receiver, transmitter, leads and any optional accessories.

Accessories

Sondes Sondes are small self-contained battery powered transmitters. Sondes are propelled through non-metallic pipes and ducts and can be located on the surface by a sonde locator or buried utility locator with a sonde mode. Sondes are also built into other products such as a sewer push camera, robotic crawler camera, or attached to a jetter hose. Sondes come in a variety of sizes which ties into how deep they can be located. Different frequencies are available which allow sondes to be located in metallic or non-metallic pipes and ducts. GPS Receiver The Garmin GLO™ brings you the best of both worlds by combining GPS/GLONASS receivers with Bluetooth® technology so you can enjoy precise position information on your iPad, iPhone or Android device. The Garmin GLO™ can receive position information from both the GPS and GLONASS satellite constellations, allowing it to connect to up to 24 more satellites than devices that rely on GPS alone. This allows GLO™ to lock on to satellites approximately 20 percent faster and remain connected even at high speed. What’s more, GLO™ updates its position information at 10 times per second — that’s up to 10 times more often than the GPS receivers in many mobile devices. Using Bluetooth technology, GLO™ wirelessly pairs to your mobile device. Just set GLO™ within range of your mobile device, and in moments you’ll be receiving GLO™’s position data. It has up to 12 hours of battery life to keep your position on long trips, and charging GLO™ between uses is easy with the included USB cable or optional 12/24-volt cigarette lighter adapter. The optional friction mount keeps the receiver safe on your dashboard and in full view of satellites. A custom holder is available for the GLO™ receiver. Live Cable Connector The Live Cable Connector is usable on live cables up to 480 V ac 60/50Hz. The Live Cable Connector operates on frequencies of 8kHz, 33kHz and SIS. The Transmitter provides power in, the output leads from the separation filter can be connected to conductors carrying up to 480V AC. Note that the Live Cable Connector should only be used by approved operatives adhering to company regulations and work practices while using appropriate safety equipment and clothing.
Live Plug Connector The Live Plug Connector (LPC separation filter) is used to safely inject a locate frequency onto a live street distribution cable using a standard household mains socket from a building. This allows the cable to be traced from the premises to the connection in the street. The LPC separation filter is useable with transmitter frequencies of 8 kHz, 33 kHz, 65 kHz and has a roatary knob for phase switching. Use the Live Plug Connector for connecting to voltages between 100V AC and 250V AC. Apply a locate signal onto all utility services using one connection Phase switching
Rechargeable Transmitter Battery The rechargeable battery kit for the vScan transmitter is supplied with a charger assembly and custom Lithium-ion battery. Lithium-ion batteries are high capacity, do not develop a memory and can hold a charge for an extended amount of time.
Direct Connection Lead with Heavy Duty Clips The direct connection lead consists of two cables, one (red clip) must be connected to the conductor being located, the other (black clip) to a suitable ground (a ground stake is provided with the transmitter). A few options are available for specific industries and conditions. Heavy Duty Lead Heavy Duty Clip version is more suited for the gas and water industries where the size of the targeted lines is larger, and connections will be made to bell housings, fire hydrants and transformer boxes. The more aggressive teeth of the heavy-duty clip also make it easier to connect to objects that are painted such as hydrants.
Direct Connection Lead with Telco Clip The direct connection lead consists of two cables, one (red clip) must be connected to the conductor being located, the other (black clip) to a suitable ground (a ground stake is provided with the transmitter). A few options are available for specific industries and conditions. Telco Lead Telco Clip version is suitable for telephone cable where the user cannot access the sheath of the cable. The “bed of nails” part of this clip can be clamped onto a cable breaking the insulation allowing contact with the sheath. The Telco Clip is constructed with an Insulation Piercing Bed of Nails and spike.
Ground Extension Spool Use the extension spool to extend the ground connection to reach a suitable grounding position. Extending the ground allows the user to move the ground lead to various positions to help the transmitters signal to travel further. By extending the length of the ground lead the user can use locate tactics such as performing a double ended connection.
Induction Clamps The Induction Clamp provides a precise way to apply a locating signal. It is generally used when it is not possible or convenient to access the conductor to make a direct connection but there is sufficient room to place the clamp around the cable or pipe, or when it is not safe to make a direct connection because the target cable is carrying electricity. The Induction Clamp is a specialized inductive device, sometimes known as a toroid or coupler. All clamps are optimized to work at specific frequencies. In most cases clamps are designed to be used at frequencies generally between 8 kHz and 85 kHz. Application

MyvScan App

Keep the operating system of the vScan up to date with the free MyvScan Desktop App. The vScan management tool allows the user to configure the features in the locator, download data collected from locating, set alarms useable while locating, and check and update the locator’s firmware.

VMMAP App

When used with the vLoc series receivers, the VMMap Utility Mapping app records data from the field which is instantly available online or can be shared by using the email function in the app to send .kml or .csv files.
